OUR HISTORY

The Cornish Claycutters formed in early 2017 with the help of the Southwest Baseball League’s (SWBL) development officer and originally under the name St. Austell Claycutters.

The team started out with a regular 10-12 players playing out of Fowey River academy where we slowly gained momentum as a team within the SWBL.

In late 2018 we made the decision to move to Truro and as the county's first and only baseball team, changed our name to the Cornish Claycutters Baseball Club.

2019 was a breakthrough season for the club, as we started to become a real force in the SWBL making it all the way to the league final in Bristol which we unfortunately lost.

In 2020 due to post-pandemic Covid regulations the club lost use of its home field and relocated to Newquay, and with this came a move into the newly formed South West and Wales Baseball League (SWWBL), an affiliation with the British Baseball Federation (BBF) and a step up in the standard of competition due in part to Cardiff and Bristol based teams being included in our division.

Remarkably, despite the step up in standard the club was able to mount another push all the way to the final of the 2021 season which unfortunately we also lost.

The 2022 season saw the club grow in memberships as we battled our way through to another post season, this time making the Semi Finals.

Now we have returned to Truro, the club sits in a great position to push on for glory in the 2023 season and beyond.
